Service 04 · Brand Messaging & Voice

One story, told the same way, by everyone in your business

A message hierarchy and voice guide clear enough that a freelancer you’ve never met can follow them on day one — and specific enough that your customers notice the difference.

From NZ$1,850

At a glance

  • Timeline: 2–3 weeks
  • Your time: 3 hours
  • Revisions: two full rounds included
  • Billing: fixed fee, never hourly

Includes the workshop, the hierarchy, the voice guide and a one-hour team training session.

This is for you if

  • Three people write for your brand and it shows
  • Your website, your deck and your emails describe different companies
  • You’ve grown past the positioning you started with
  • Every new freelancer needs three rounds before they sound like you

It’s not for you if

  • You want a logo, a colour palette or a visual identity — that’s a designer
  • Leadership can’t agree on who the customer is, and won’t decide
  • You want a document rather than a change in how people write
  • The real problem is that the business doesn’t behave the way the guide would claim

Not sure which column you’re in? Ask me on a free call — I’ll tell you honestly.

What you get

Everything included in Brand Messaging & Voice

No add-on pricing halfway through. This is the whole list.

90-minute voice workshop

Four to six people, real artefacts on the wall, and the disagreements surfaced rather than smoothed over.

Message hierarchy

One big idea, three proof-backed pillars, ranked objections and the order they appear in.

Voice guide

Four-dimension positioning with reasons, eight to twelve followable rules, and a never-say list.

‘We say this, not that’

At least fifteen rows drawn from your real writing, each with a ‘because’ column so it survives disagreement.

Applied examples

The same message written for a homepage, an email, a social post and a difficult service message.

Team training

One hour with everyone who writes, so the guide is used rather than filed.

How it runs

Four stages, and you always know which one we’re in

Every stage ends with something you can read, not a status update.

See the full process
Stage one

Free fit call

Thirty minutes on your goals, your customers and whether this is the right service for the problem. You get a fixed-fee proposal within 48 hours.

Stage two

Research

Interviews, mining, analytics and competitor work. You get the research brief before any writing starts, so nothing is a surprise later.

Stage three

Draft & revise

Written work in a shared doc, then two full revision rounds. I explain the reasoning behind anything you want to change.

Stage four

Handover & check-in

Final files, a handover call with whoever is implementing, and a check-in 30 days later to see what the numbers did.

Questions

Brand Messaging & Voice FAQ

It is, if it’s built the usual way. That’s why the deliverable is capped at a dozen rules, why every rule has an example, and why the training hour is included rather than optional. The guides that survive live where people write, have one named owner, and grow examples rather than rules.

For a solo founder, yes — we replace the workshop with a longer one-to-one session and I mine your existing writing for the patterns you already have. For any team of three or more writers, the workshop is where the real disagreements surface, and skipping it just moves them to the review stage.

Good. That disagreement was already costing you inconsistent copy; the workshop just makes it visible and time-boxed. My job is to bring it to a decision in the room and write it down. If a decision genuinely can’t be made, I’ll say so rather than paper over it.

It’s the first phase of one, sold separately. If you book a website project within 60 days, the messaging fee is credited in full. Plenty of clients do messaging first, write their own copy from it, and come back later for the pages that matter most.

The hierarchy includes your origin story as raw material, and a written About page can be added for NZ$680. The messaging work is what makes that page good — About pages fail because the strategy underneath them was never settled, not because the writing was bad.
